Intent

Our fundamental aim in technology is for all students to be actively engaged in solving real world problems with creativity at the heart of all that we do. Each student will:

  • Be given opportunities to develop confidence to communicate their ideas and critical thinking (C)
  • Be encouraged to empathise with differing cultures context and needs to build awareness of our global community (I)
  • Be given opportunities to develop research lead approaches in seeking solutions (R)
  • Be given practical opportunities to express their own creativity in response to various contexts (C)
  • Be given a curriculum that enables them to achieve not only exam success, but to learn skills and knowledge that can be transferred and used in their everyday life (L)
  • Work towards being independent problem solvers with a moral, social and ethical conscience (E)

Design and Technology

The Design and Technology department at Amersham School are committed to delivering a curriculum accessible to all which provides a range of opportunities for students to develop and enjoy. We encourage students to be self-motivated and confident learners, who can work with independence and when asked as part of a team. Through the imbedded use of ‘CIRCLE’ skills we aim to ensure that learners develop a love of creativity and aim to be self-reliant. Although technical and practical competencies are revered, it is the ethos of ‘we can do’ that gives our students the wider skills valued by employers. Our main priority is for students to be creative problem solvers who are not afraid of but whom learn from making mistakes. We hope our students will become responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society.

Food Technology

The Food Technology department at Amersham School is dedicated to providing an inclusive curriculum that offers students diverse opportunities to learn and thrive. We encourage students to become confident and capable in the kitchen, with a curriculum that begins with the teaching of basic practical skills and nutrition in Year 7 and gradually builds on these foundations in Year 8. Our goal is to equip students with a solid understanding of healthy eating, proper nutrition, and personal hygiene in food preparation. Through the integration of ‘CIRCLE’ skills, we foster creativity, communication, and teamwork, ensuring students develop both technical competence and essential life skills. By the end of the two-year program, our students will not only be proficient in the kitchen but also confident in their ability to apply what they've learned in a variety of contexts.
