We have a thriving Sixth Form at Amersham School.

Advanced level study requires different learning and teaching styles to which our teachers are highly skilled at adapting.

Students’ individual ways of learning and their strengths are already known by their teachers and these positive relationships contribute to the success of our Sixth Form.

Ours is a school on the cutting edge of educational strategy; we lead the way, we do not simply follow or stagnate. Indeed, many schools, both locally and nationally, grammar and comprehensive alike are turning to Amersham School to investigate the reason for our success.  Our success is both complex and simple in equal measure.  The simple guide of travel is the fact that the students in our school are at the absolute centre of every decision that we make. We tweak, we change, and we improve to ensure that our students have the optimum environment within which to be able to succeed.  Our students are important to us.  We know them.  We cater our teaching to their needs and we always go that extra mile to ensure that they have everything that we can give them to promote their personal success.

The range of courses available and the high quality of teaching allows our students to fulfil their potential.  But importantly, the involvement in school life promotes the development of skills that ensure personal and lifelong success.  Our students report that they are happy with the provision, particularly the quality of teaching, their progress and ultimately the superb atmosphere that our Sixth Form generates.

We expect the majority of our Year 11 students to continue their studies at Amersham School and we also look forward to welcoming new students to the school each year.

The sixth-form curriculum provides progression routes for all students who continue studying at the school. Skilled mentorship and bespoke careers education ensure that they are well informed about different career pathways and future study options. Students achieve well, and they go on to their choice of either apprenticeships, work or study at a range of universities, including those in the Russell group.                (Ofsted June 2021)

Whilst we ensure that our Sixth Form students receive the very best education, we recognise that being a part of our Sixth Form is so much more than the pursuit of academic qualifications.  It is an exciting time to mature and develop personally as a member of a strong community.

Through our enterprise approach to education, our students develop the personal, social and leadership skills that are so necessary in the pursuit and fulfilment of a successful career.  Our Sixth Form students organise and run prefect duties that have a very positive impact on school life, in addition to running the very successful House system and all that this entails.  Our Sixth Form students take responsibility for chairing the Student Council and are involved in whole school issues, including hosting events for younger students and mentoring and counselling to name but a few.  These additional experiences give our students an edge in the application for university or work placements.
