Purposeful Practice Week
At Amersham School we fully believe in the ethos of "practice makes permanent". As a result of the recent GCSE and A Level reforms, students will now be faced with a significantly greater emphasis on exams at the end of their course. In order to support students with the new demands, Amersham's Purposeful Practice Weeks are designed to allow students to practise exam technique and preparation in a safe and supportive environment.
Form tutors and subject teachers teach specific revision techniques and students are given the opportunity to embed these through designated revision periods throughout the week. Year team assemblies place an emphasis on how to learn rather than what to learn as well as focusing on the mental health issues surrounding assessment. Students experience a low stakes formal examination in each of their subject areas which allow staff and students to understand the progress being made and to inform future revision priorities.
All of this culminates in the students being comfortable in a well rehearsed routine when they sit their first public examination in the hall.
