CIRCLE Enterprise Skills

Our curriculum is built around teaching the knowledge required for achieving academic potential. In partnership with this, there is a high profile placed on the skills required for success at school and beyond. All the lessons, activities, and events that our students take part in at school are designed to help develop important skills. These will help our young people to become better learners and effective employees and leaders when they leave school. These skills also give our students the confidence and resilience to work in challenging situations.

These are our CIRCLE skills of communication, interpersonal, research, creativity, learning, and effective self-managers. The development of these skills were designed around research from Guy Claxton and Carol Dweck recognising the active ingredients required for young people to develop confidence and self-belief in their learning potential.

In key stage 3, these are taught in our curriculum alongside the knowledge content. Students collect recognition and development of these skills and track their progress on their learning passport. Successful completion of this passport will be rewarded with a CIRCLE award badge. Wearing this enables teachers to build challenge into the delivery of these skills as students' personal development continues to grow.

In key stage 4, these skills are targeted towards greater independence and looking ahead to life beyond Amersham School. Students are supported to track evidence of where they have used these skills successfully and articulate with confidence how this increases their employability.

In the sixth form, our Amersham Baccalaureate is an internally assessed award that develops skills, and embeds and encourages community values. It is measured across academic progress levels, community engagement, and our CIRCLE skills. There are three carefully planned levels with clearly outlined criteria to meet Gold, Silver, and Bronze standards. These are used to enhance references, curricula vitae, and UCAS applications.
