Catch Up Premium - Year 7 Literacy and Numeracy support

Students are identified who need extra support from the Year 7 Literacy and Numeracy Catch Up Premium.  This is an additional grant for each Year 7 student who did not achieve the expected level in reading and/or mathematics at Key Stage 2 (KS2).  The school then plans the best way to use the funding.  The school will plan provision that suits the needs of their Year 7 cohort and that fits in with strategies already used by the school to help underperforming students.  The aim of this funding is to support Year 7 students in ‘catching up’ with their peers.

Before selecting students, the school takes into consideration the student’s performance at KS2 tests for mathematics, reading, grammar, punctuation and spelling.  Additionally, at Amersham School students in Year 7’s literacy is assessed by using literacy assessment online.  This assesses reading comprehension and spelling skills.  Students are attributed a standard score.

In 2017/2018 the school will receive the same overall amount of Year 7 catch-up premium funding they received in 2016 to 2017, adjusted to reflect the percentage change in the size of their Year 7 cohort, based on the October 2017 census. We expect the funding to be in the order of approximately £9,000.
